Types of Tree Trimming We Provide

Be prepared for the next wind or snow storm by ensuring no limbs will interfere with your utility lines.  Pruning for line clearance (from the telephone pole to your house) can be done year-round.  This is not something Eversource will do.  It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain these lines.  We have no doubt prevented countless power outages by some simple directional pruning cuts!

Our landscape needs to be practical… That’s why it’s a great idea to maintain branch development in areas where you need a clear line of sight.  If you’re pulling out of your driveway and are unable to see oncoming traffic because of a few pesky limbs, give us a call!

If you’re unable to mow certain parts of your yard because limbs are too low to the ground… we can help!  If you have trees and branches along your driveway that are beginning to encroach on your drivability… we’ve got you covered!

Having an informed tree care professional out to assess the structure of the your trees is an excellent practice.  Developing a proper pruning plan is a great way increase the longevity and safety of your trees.  As a tree develops a trained eye is able to foresee places in the canopy where structural instability may arise in the future.  When we assess a trees structure we will  aim to reduce the development of weak co-dominant stems (or competing leaders), prune out places where there is included bark (weak connections often), reduce or remove large low branches, and correct an unbalanced canopy.

Deadwood is a natural development that occurs as trees shed limbs throughout the course of their development.  Deadwood can also be cause by mechanical injury, disease and/or drought.  It is a good practice to regularly prune out deadwood.  This practice helps the tree to close wounds, reduces hazards and yard clean up.

Looking to recover or develop a beautiful form on the prized ornamental tree in your yard?  Look no further.  Our tree care professionals are here to help you achieve your desired aesthetic.  It is best to develop a pruning plan within the first few years of planting so that we can encourage the trees development in our favor right from the beginning, however, if you are inheriting an already established landscape we can certainly work to recover overgrown trees and shrubs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How often should trees be trimmed in Connecticut?
Most mature trees benefit from trimming every 3 to 5 years, though young trees may need attention every 1 to 2 years while their structure is being trained. Trees with dead wood, storm damage, or growth near utility lines, driveways, or rooflines often need more frequent attention. Our team can assess your specific trees and recommend a pruning schedule during a free consultation.

What’s the difference between tree trimming and tree pruning?
In practice, homeowners often use these terms interchangeably, and so do we. Trimming or pruning refers to selectively cutting branches to improve a tree’s health, safety, structure, or appearance. This can mean removing deadwood, clearing utility lines, reducing weak or crossing limbs, or shaping a tree for aesthetics. The goal is always the same: a healthier, safer, better-looking tree.

Can you trim trees that are growing into utility lines?
Yes. Pruning for utility line clearance, from the telephone pole to your house, is the homeowner’s responsibility rather than Eversource’s, and it’s one of our most requested services. We can prune year-round to keep limbs clear of power and telephone lines, which helps prevent outages during high winds and heavy snow.

Can tree trimming improve visibility along my driveway?
Absolutely. Low-hanging limbs that block your line of sight when pulling out of a driveway, or that interfere with mowing and everyday drivability, are a common and easy fix. We can clear branches along driveways, walkways, and sightlines so your property is safer and easier to navigate.

What is deadwood, and why does it need to be removed?
Deadwood is dead or dying branch material that naturally develops as a tree grows, and it can also result from mechanical injury, disease, or drought. Removing deadwood helps the tree close wounds properly, reduces the risk of falling limbs, and keeps your yard cleaner. Regular deadwood removal is one of the simplest ways to maintain a tree’s long-term health.

Do you trim trees for structural health, not just appearance?
Yes, this is one of the most valuable services we offer. Our arborists assess a tree’s structure to spot developing issues, such as weak co-dominant stems, included bark at branch unions, oversized low branches, or an unbalanced canopy, before they become hazards. A proactive pruning plan increases a tree’s longevity and reduces the risk of limb or trunk failure down the road.

When is the best time of year to trim trees in Connecticut?
The best time to prune really depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Late winter through early spring encourages vigorous new growth as trees break dormancy. Summer makes it easier to identify branches causing clearance issues or becoming overly weighted with foliage. Late fall through winter is ideal for structural pruning and deadwood removal because the branch structure is easier to see. Hazardous limbs and storm damage should always be addressed promptly, regardless of the season. Utility line clearance pruning can also be performed year-round.

Can you help shape ornamental trees for aesthetics?
Yes. Whether you’re developing a young ornamental tree’s form from the start or recovering an overgrown tree or shrub on an established property, our team can create and carry out a pruning plan to help you achieve the look you want.

Is Arbortech licensed and insured for tree trimming work?
Yes. Arbortech holds the business permit specifically required by the Connecticut DEEP to complete arborist services (PMBR.05045) and a Connecticut Home Improvement Contractor license (#HIC.0651213). We also carry full insurance. Before hiring any tree service for trimming or pruning, it’s worth asking for proof of both an arborist license and insurance to protect yourself as the property owner.

We had three huge trees cut in our yard. Arbortech went above and beyond completing the work per their quote. Left the yard clean from debris and sawdust. They even moved a squirrel nest with babies in it to a different tree.

Lindsey, Justin, and the ARBORTECH crew are amazing. We had a large maple on a rocky hillside with some challenges that included being close to the house, propane tank, plantings, and hot tub with limited walking access only. Every branch, limb, and log had to be lowered and carried away by hand. The crew arrived on time and was professional, communicative, and hard working. After the final sweep by the team, the area looked perfect and undisturbed- minus one large tree. We have used ARBORTECH four different times and have consistently been impressed. It is clear that they care and are attentive to our needs.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the job ArborTech did from start to finish! Justin, the owner and arborist, came out quickly to quote the job of removing a tree, grinding the stump and shaping/pruning 4 other maple trees. Santos and Alex, along with Justin, came out the next week and they completed the job with great precision and care. Of particular note, Santos and Alex took a lot of time to ensure my grass, driveway and street were clean of debris throughout the day, and at the end, you couldn’t tell they were even here other than their beautiful results. It is apparent that ArborTech is a highly professional, skilled, and knowledgeable team that takes pride in what they do!

The A-team came through for my tree removal. They were fast, very organized, safe and aware of their surroundings. They did a great job with the stump removal. They left my property cleaner then when they arrived. The price was perfect for what they did. Also removed all wood and left me some woodchips. Thank you.
